In August 2020, China's pesticide import and export volume and value both fell year-on-year, and the trade surplus was US$525 million. The import and export volume (cargo volume, the same below) was 115,200 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 11.89%; the import and export volume was US$549 million, a year-on-year decrease of 26.59%.

1. Export situation

In August 2020, China’s pesticide exports both fell year-on-year. The export volume was 114,400 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.21%; the export value was US$537 million, a year-on-year decrease of 26.99%.

From the perspective of the original drugs and preparations, the original drugs and preparations both decreased year-on-year, and the decrease of the original drugs was greater than that of the preparations. The export volume of technical materials was 41,200 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 19.78%, and the export value was US$312 million, a year-on-year decrease of 33.20%; the export volume of preparations was 72,800 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.26%, and the export value was US$224 million, a year-on-year decrease of 16.12%. .

According to the type of pesticide, in terms of export quantity and value, only the pesticide dose increased. The export volume of herbicides was 73,100 tons and the export value was US$282 million; the export volume of pesticides was 28,300 tons and the export value was US$163 million; the export volume of fungicides was 11,100 tons and the export value was US$82 million (Table 1).

2. Import situation

In August, China's pesticide imports increased in quantity, while the amount dropped slightly. The import quantity was 12 thousand tons, a year-on-year increase of 33.44%; the import value was US$12 million, a year-on-year decrease of 3.56%.

From the perspective of technical materials and preparations, imported technical materials have both increased, and preparations have increased in volume year-on-year. The import volume of technical materials was 0.03 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 35.23%, and the import value was US$4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 86.02%; the import volume of preparations was 0.09 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 32.96%; the import value was US$08 million, a year-on-year decrease of 24.25%. 

According to the category of pesticides, in terms of import quantity and value, insecticides and fungicides both increased, and herbicides decreased. The import quantity of pesticides is 60 thousand tons, and the import value is 60 million U.S. dollars; the import quantity of fungicides is 0.05 thousand tons, and the import value is 0.05 billion U.S. dollars; the import quantity of herbicides is 0.01 thousand tons, and the import value is 100 million US dollars (Table 2).
